TO UPGRADE SOUTH CHICAGO FARM WITH DYNAMIC OUTDOOR COMMUNITY SPACE
The Project Will Support the Development of UGC’s South Chicago Farm by Creating an Outdoor Studio & Kitchen Space to Further Integrate Culinary & Arts Programming
WHO & WHAT: Love, Tito’s Block to Block is teaming up with Urban Growers Collective, a Black- and woman-led nonprofit dedicated to cultivating nourishing environments that support health, economic development, healing and creativity through urban agriculture. In addition to its growing operations, the seven-acre farm acts as a hands-on classroom space for job education and training including the Herbalism Apprenticeship Program and Grower Apprenticeship Program.
UGC operates eight farms, which collectively produce over 18,000 pounds of fresh produce annually, enabling food access for thousands of food-insecure Chicagoans, and provides educational and life-enriching opportunities to hundreds of individuals each year, through public workshops, workforce development, and land stewardship.
VISUALS: The South Chicago Farm will be receiving major upgrades, including preparing the site for the construction of a brand new outdoor studio space which will be used for arts, culinary, and community programming. Additionally, volunteers will be helping with a variety of farm-related tasks and projects to enhance the space including hoop house assistance and harvesting medicinal and culinary herbs.
