Why is UGC participating in the Race Against Gun Violence?
Urban Growers Collective works in communities that have been impacted by gun violence. Many of our youth and their families have been victimized by this trauma, either on a personal or familial level. We incorporate healing and fitness as a core value of our organization’s work and building collective power with other organizations that are combating poverty and violence. Participating in the walk is both an opportunity to stand in solidarity while also embracing fitness as a strategy for well-being.
As Urban Farmers and stewards of safe, healing, nourishing and food growing spaces we are committed to being peacekeepers and bringing hope to all our neighborhoods in Chicago.
What is the Race Against Gun Violence?
The Race Against Gun Violence is a rallying point to raise awareness and funds for organization working to save lives and build Chicago’s future. It is an opportunity to change the narrative about our city, call concerned citizens to action and show the world that Chicago can come together to solve the problem of gun violence.
